Zamfara govt alleges harassment of opposition figures, seeks Tinubu’s intervention

Zamfara State Government has accused federal security operatives of harassing and intimidating opposition figures in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the government claimed that Saleem Abubakar, a Technical Assistant in the office of the Zamfara State Governor, was taken away by a special forces unit without the presentation of an arrest warrant.

The government alleged that Abubakar was initially taken to an undisclosed location and later moved between different facilities, a development it said raised concerns over his whereabouts.

Describing the incident as “disturbing,” the state government warned that the alleged action could undermine the neutrality of national security institutions and Nigeria’s democratic principles.

It called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and ensure that security agencies operate within the bounds of the law.

The government stressed that due process must be followed in all cases, noting that if there are allegations against Abubakar, he should be charged in a court of law rather than being subjected to what it described as unlawful arrest.

The Zamfara State Government said it was monitoring the situation closely and would pursue the matter to ensure that justice is served.
