Presidency pressuring Abba Yusuf to install Garo as Kano Deputy Governor – Dawanan

A public affairs analyst and All Progressives Congress chieftain, Habib Dawanan, has alleged that Governor Abba Yusuf is currently under pressure to appoint Murtala Garo as deputy governor.

Dawanan disclosed this in a recent statement.

He alleged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led presidency is pressuring Governor Yusuf into appointing Garo.

He described the alleged move as a “direct assault on the rule of law,” warning that elevating an embattled candidate to the state’s number two position would effectively grant constitutional immunity and stall ongoing criminal trials.

Dawanan said Garo’s nomination is “glaring double standard,” especially following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam.

“It appears to be a calculated attempt to secure backdoor immunity for the accused,” the letter stated, cautioning that such a move would “ridicule the office of the governor and compromise the integrity of the legislature.”

He urged Tinubu to allow Governor Yusuf the independence to choose a deputy without interference, stressing that “the soul of governance and sanctity of institutions must remain paramount.”

Recall that Yusuf dumped the New Nigerian Peoples Party for APC and thereafter, Aminu Abdulsalam resigned as deputy governor.
