Oyo panel seeks public memoranda on school abduction probe

Oyo State Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area has called on members of the public to submit memoranda to support its investigation.

The commission, inaugurated by Governor Seyi Makinde on July 31, is seeking facts, evidence and other relevant materials concerning the circumstances surrounding the abduction. 

It is particularly interested in information on the security situation before, during and after the incident, the response of relevant authorities, and recommendations aimed at preventing similar occurrences in the future.

In a public notice signed by the commission’s secretary, Olamide Tella, individuals and organisations were encouraged to provide detailed submissions, including their contact information and any supporting documents where available.

The panel stated that memoranda can be submitted physically at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, or electronically. The deadline for submissions is August 14, 2026.

According to the commission, the inquiry was established to determine the facts surrounding the abduction, assess the actions taken by relevant authorities, and recommend measures to strengthen security and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
