MACBAN demands probe into killing of Benue chairman, Ardo Risku
by Winner James · Daily PostThe Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has condemned the killing of its Benue State Chairman, Ardo Risku, and called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
In a statement signed by its National President, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, the association said it received news of the incident with “deep shock and sadness.”
According to MACBAN, reports available to its national headquarters indicate that Alhaji Ardo Risku had been invited by the Ohimini Local Government authorities to attend a security meeting aimed at addressing peace and security challenges in the area.
The association alleged that about an hour after the meeting, Risku and a friend were intercepted at Okudu village, where they were attacked and shot multiple times.
MACBAN described the incident as “a dastardly and deeply disturbing act,” saying the circumstances surrounding the killing raise concerns about possible premeditation.
“It is particularly troubling that a community leader who attended a security meeting meant to promote peace and stability could allegedly become a victim shortly after,” the statement said.
The association also expressed concern over what it described as an earlier attack on one of the deceased’s children, a lawyer, who was allegedly attacked in a village last week.
It said the two incidents warrant a comprehensive and transparent investigation by the relevant security authorities.
MACBAN urged security agencies to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice.
The association noted that attacks on community leaders and peace advocates undermine efforts to promote reconciliation, dialogue and peaceful coexistence among communities.
It further extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the leadership and members of MACBAN in Benue State, and others affected by the loss.
MACBAN reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful engagement and collaboration with government and security institutions in addressing security challenges across the country.
