NSCDC calls for public support against terrorism after Oyo rescue 

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called on Nigerians to support security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen the fight against terrorism and other forms of criminality across the country.

This was contained in a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Assistant Commandant of Corps, Afolabi Babawale and issued to newsmen.

According to the statement, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, made the appeal while commending the joint security team that successfully rescued 44 abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The victims, who were abducted by terrorists on May 15, 2026, regained their freedom following a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Army Special Forces, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the NSCDC.

The statement described the successful operation as a testament to the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and intelligence sharing, as well as the Federal Government’s commitment to combating terrorism, protecting schools and safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians.

It said the Commandant applauded the courage, professionalism and dedication of the security personnel who participated in the operation, assuring that the NSCDC would continue to strengthen the protection of schools and other Critical National Assets and Infrastructure through proactive intelligence gathering, strategic deployment of personnel, community engagement and sustained collaboration with other security agencies.

The NSCDC boss stressed that national security is a collective responsibility, urging citizens to volunteer useful information that could assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending criminal elements.

“The Corps will continue to sustain strong synergy with other security agencies to ensure a safer, more secure and peaceful Nigeria,” Audi said.
