Army rescues 13 kidnapped victims, foils terrorists’ operations in Zamfara
by Matthew Atungwu · Daily PostTroops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 13 kidnapped victims during separate intelligence-led operations in Anka and Kaura Namoda local government areas of Zamfara State.
This was contained in a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt-Col Aliyu Danja, on Thursday.
Danja said the successful operations also led to the recovery of two vehicles and the disruption of terrorist activities in the affected communities.
He further said that the first operation was carried out by troops of Sector Two in Bagega following credible intelligence on the movement of armed terrorists on motorcycles towards Tungan Kudaduku in Anka Local Government Area.
According to him, the troops, supported by real-time surveillance, pursued and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and abandon their mission.
The spokesman noted that a follow-up search of the area led to the discovery of a makeshift terrorist camp, where five kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed.
Danja disclosed that in a separate operation at Unguwan Rogo in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, troops acted on intelligence reports of terrorist activity and engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle.
According to him, the terrorists were forced to retreat, abandoning eight kidnapped victims, while two vehicles were also recovered during the operation.
“All thirteen rescued victims have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further care and support.
“Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA are sustaining offensive operations across the North-West, maintaining pressure on terrorist groups and denying them freedom of movement,” the statement said.
