Police begin probe into alleged murder of Kwara farmer

by · Daily Post

The Kwara State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of a farmer, Abdulazeez Abubakar Abiodun, popularly known as Azeez Garba or “Kebe”, whose lifeless body was found on his cocoa farm in Isin Local Government Area of the state.
Garba was reportedly killed by unknown assailants on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, and police said preliminary investigations revealed that he sustained deep machete wounds.

The incident came to light after the deceased’s daughter, Rofiat, shared an account of his death on social media, narrating how the family searched for her father after he failed to return home from his farm on July 11, 2026.

According to her, Garba left his home in Isalu at about 7:00 a.m. for his cocoa farm, where he worked daily but didn’t return at his usual time.

“We initially believed he might have been kidnapped and waited anxiously, expecting that someone would contact us to demand a ransom. However, no call ever came,” she said.

She added that local hunters later discovered his body in a nearby bush.

“They found my father’s lifeless body in the bush. His two hands had been tied, and he had been brutally killed,” she said.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi had ordered an investigation into the killing.

She said the police commissioner described the murder as,”cruel, senseless, and unacceptable,” directing the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to deploy all available investigative and intelligence assets to identify, track and apprehend those responsible.

“While no arrest has been made as of the time of this release, the command wishes to assure the bereaved family, the people of Isin Local Government Area, and the general public that every available lead is being diligently pursued,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
