CJF condemns abduction of Sapele Council Chairman, Abeke
by Matthew Omonigho · Daily PostA group under the auspices of Concerned Journalists Forum (CJF), Nigeria, on Sunday, condemned in strong terms the recent abduction of the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Council, Hon. Bright Afure Abeke by gunmen, on Friday.
This is contained in a statement by CJF National Chairman, Comrade Emeka Nwokocha and the Secretary, Comrade Celestine Ukah.
They said the kidnappers had a field day while their operation lasted.
CJF expressed worry about worsening crime rate in Delta State, describing it as a scary development.
CJF also noted with dismay that the safety of Deltans were “oftentimes discussed and assured on symposiums and speech-making sessions, but not much action is practically put in place to protect lives and property of Deltans as guaranteed by Section 14(2b) of the 1999 constitution, as amended”.
It reiterated its concern about the erosion of public trust for government institutions whose responsibility is to protect the lives and properties of the citizens.
It called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to demand better commitment from the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi to rid the state of criminal elements whose murderous activities had gotten worse across the state in recent months.
