Niger miners’ death: Arrest, prosecute NSCDC personnel involved now – Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, personnel involved in the death of over 30 miners in Niger State.

Sowore made the demand in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Friday.

DAILY POST recalls that about 37 suspected illegal miners died in the custody of the NSCDC.

The development caused uproar as youths took to the streets across the state to protest the incident.

The Niger State Government on Friday imposed a 24-hour curfew following the incident.

Reacting, Sowore said, “At this point, the NSCDC officers involved should have been arrested and subjected to a thorough criminal investigation over the deaths of these innocent miners.

“Where the evidence establishes deliberate or premeditated killings, those responsible must be charged for murder accordingly.

“There must be no cover-up and no impunity for the unlawful taking of innocent lives.”
