2027: NDC demands Lagos CP’s suspension over alleged pro-Tinubu action
by Olanrewaju Rasheedat · Daily PostThe Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has called for the immediate suspension of the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani, over his appearance at what the party described as a partisan political event ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The opposition party made the demand in a statement shared on its official social media page on Tuesday, accusing the police commissioner of compromising the neutrality expected of the Nigeria Police Force.
The reaction followed the circulation of a video showing the Lagos police commissioner at an event reportedly organised by the City Boy Movement Lagos State Chapter.
The group is widely associated with supporters of President Bola Tinubu.
According to the NDC, the commissioner’s presence at the gathering raises concerns about his ability to discharge his responsibilities impartially during the next general election.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the appearance of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani, at a partisan event promoting a particular candidate in the upcoming general election,” the party said.
The opposition further urged the Police High Command to take disciplinary action against the commissioner.
“We therefore demand that the Nigeria Police authorities immediately suspend and sanction the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani,” the statement added.
The party also called on the police to publicly commit to neutrality during the elections and ensure equal protection for supporters of all political parties.
It further demanded that officers guarantee the safety of voters regardless of their religion, ethnicity or political affiliation.
“Finally, we demand that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police tender his resignation immediately for denigrating the institution of the Police,” the statement said.
