Osun APC alerts security agencies ahead of planned labour protest

Security agencies in Osun State have been placed on alert ahead of a planned protest by labour unions over the ongoing local government fund dispute.

The warning came through a statement issued by the Osun chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, which called for proactive measures to prevent any disruption of public order in Osogbo.

According to the party in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi on Saturday, the demonstration is being organised by leaders of the Joint Labour Movement, including officials of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC.

The protest is expected to take place in the state capital on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

The dispute centres on local government allocations paid by the Federal Government into accounts reportedly operated by reinstated council officials, a development opposed by the Osun State Government.

As a result of the disagreement, the funds have remained withheld by the bank since 2025, pending resolution of the issues surrounding control and signatories.

In its statement, the APC urged “the police, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to monitor developments closely.

“We are calling on security agencies to act swiftly to forestall any breakdown of law and order.”

The party alleged that organisers of the protest had directed members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees to mobilise participants from across local government areas.

It claimed the planned action could disrupt banking operations and commercial activities if not properly managed by authorities.

“The Joint Labour Movement has instructed mobilisation across councils for a protest,” Olabisi stated.

He also alleged that the protest followed engagements between labour leaders and officials within the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

As at the time of going to press, both the Osun State Government and labour leaders in the state are yet to refute the allegations by the Osun APC.
