Eight terrorists killed as troops foil deadly attack on Katsina commuters

Troops of the 17 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with hybrid forces, have foiled a planned terrorist attack on commuters along the Kakumi–Guga Road in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing eight suspected terrorists.

The development was disclosed in a report by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert covering the Lake Chad region.

According to the report, the operation followed credible intelligence that armed terrorists loyal to a notorious kingpin identified as Idi Abasu Aiki were planning to attack motorists and other road users along the route.

Makama said the suspected terrorists were sighted advancing towards the target area on five motorcycles, prompting troops and the hybrid forces to swiftly mobilise and position an ambush along their likely route.

“The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, during which eight of the assailants were neutralised,” he stated.

The report added that troops subsequently carried out an exploitation of the area, recovering two AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles allegedly used by the suspected terrorists during the operation.

Makama further reported that troops have sustained aggressive patrols and surveillance across the area to prevent any retaliatory attacks on nearby communities and commuters, as Operation FANSAN YAMMA continues efforts to restrict the movement of terrorist groups across Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
