‘Show evidence if you have any’ — PRP dismisses Shehu Buba terrorism allegations

by · Daily Post

The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, has called on Nigerians to provide evidence of the terrorism allegations against the lawmaker representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba, if there is any.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, made the call in a statement on Friday.

The party stressed the importance of establishing the veracity of the allegations against the lawmaker.

According to the party, it is convinced that there is a campaign to damage the senator’s image with tissues of lies and unrestrained mischief.

It quoted Section 127(c) of the Electoral Act as specifying a penalty for the publication of false statements intended to prejudice a candidate’s electoral chances.

“These lies must stop. Those who have evidence of any criminal activity against him should provide such evidence to the authorities who should treat them as the law provides.

“We believe his rivals and detractors feel threatened by the spread and depth of his popularity, and have now resorted to peddling outrageous and libelous falsehoods against him,” the party said.

The statement came five days after Buba denied fresh allegations linking him to banditry, describing viral videos and claims circulating on social media as part of what he called a sustained campaign of disinformation and character assassination.
