Police arrest two over separate fatal attacks in Yobe

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen.
According to him, the first incident occurred on April 7, 2026, when the A Division Police Station, Damaturu, received a distress call regarding a violent attack in the Bindigari area.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Adamu Suleiman Saidu, 33, was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as ‘Aljan’, 24, following a misunderstanding believed to be connected to substance abuse.
“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with an axe, inflicting severe injuries to his head, while the suspect sustained minor injuries during the fight,” he said.
SP Abdulkarim further stated that police operatives mobilised to the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the axe used in committing the offence, which has been registered as an exhibit.
“The victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Damaturu, for medical attention, but sadly died while receiving treatment,” he said.
In a similar incident, he said officers attached to C Division responded to a distress call involving a violent fight between Al’amin Abdullahi Musa, 20, of Abari, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 21, also of Abari.
“The dispute reportedly started over a borrowed T-shirt, which escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, punches were exchanged, causing one of the parties to fall unconscious,” he added.
The command spokesperson noted that police operatives rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. He confirmed that Abdullahi Musa has been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing.
He assured that the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly upon completion of ongoing investigations.
