‘He tamed Atlantic Ocean’ – Soludo reacts as Tinubu approves two major Southeast roads
by Francis Ugwu · Daily PostAnambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has praised President Bola Tinubu for approving the design and procurement of two major federal road projects in the South-East, describing the move as a deliberate effort to rebuild the region and heal the wounds of the Nigerian Civil War.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, Soludo said the approvals followed his meeting with Tinubu on July 1 and subsequent discussions with the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
According to the governor, Umahi contacted him after the meeting and requested details of priority roads that had been discussed with the President.
Soludo said he submitted two road projects on July 3: the proposed dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji (Kogi) Road and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, which links Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway through Abia State.
He disclosed that on July 15, the Minister informed him that Tinubu had approved both projects for design and procurement.
The governor described the road projects as “critical game-changers” for the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions, adding that they would significantly improve connectivity and economic development.
Soludo said the approvals reflected Tinubu’s commitment to reconstructing the South-East, which he described as a step towards healing the lingering effects of the Civil War.
“The man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos is certainly redefining politics, and the South-East won’t be the same again,” he said.
The governor added that the approvals demonstrated the value of collaboration between governments in delivering tangible development projects, expressing optimism that history would remember Tinubu favourably for the infrastructure initiatives.
