Police arrest suspect who allegedly robbed victim of $5000 at gunpoint

One Mr Amachi Victor, 36, of Effraya village in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State has been attacked by an armed robber and dispossessed of his five thousand dollars.

Following investigation, the Police arrested one Ushie Joseph, suspected to be a member of a local vigilante group, in connection with the reported armed robbery and shooting incident.

The incident was reported to have occurred at about 1:45 a.m. on 17 September 2026.

PRO of the state police command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata confirmed the crime, saying preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect allegedly attacked and shot the victim with a locally fabricated pistol.

“The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital in Ikom, where he is currently receiving medical attention and responding to treatment. 

“Police detectives have visited the reported scene of the incident and the hospital as part of ongoing investigations”, he said in a statement.

Akata said the victim claimed he was robbed of the sum of US$5,000 during the robbery.

But Akata said the claim remains subject to investigation, adding that it will be established through evidence and due legal process.

He explained that police operatives tracked the suspect to his hideout and arrested him following intelligence reports.

He said a locally fabricated pistol suspected to have been used in the incident has also been recovered and secured as an exhibit.
