Rivers sets up committee for Nigeria’s 66th independence anniversary

The Rivers State Government has begun preparations for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary with the inauguration of a Central Planning Committee to coordinate activities for the celebration.

The committee was inaugurated in Port Harcourt by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Dagogo Wokoma, who said it would oversee the planning and execution of programmes approved for the anniversary.

Wokoma, in a statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations Unit in the Office of the SSG, Juliana Masi, said the government was starting preparations early to ensure a successful and memorable celebration.

He said the anniversary activities would begin with a Juma’at Prayer Service on Friday, September 25, followed by an Inter-Denominational Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, September 27.

The celebrations will end with a grand finale on Thursday, October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day.

Wokoma also commended security agencies and relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies for their continued cooperation with the state government in maintaining peaceful celebrations over the years.

He urged members of the committee to apply their experience and professional knowledge to the assignment, stressing that the government was determined to ensure a hitch-free commemoration.

The SSG said the government would “leave no stone unturned” in its efforts to make the 66th Independence Anniversary celebration successful.
