JAMB lifts SIM, email change ban, gives candidates fresh directives 

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has lifted its restriction on SIM swapping and email changes, allowing candidates who have lost access to their registered details to update them through a controlled process.

The new arrangement commenced on Monday, September 21, 2026, and applies to candidates who can no longer access their registered phone numbers or recover their email accounts.

JAMB in a statement by its Director of Communications, Fabian Benjamin, said the decision followed the introduction of stronger identity and biometric verification measures, which it said would help prevent fraud, impersonation and unauthorised changes to candidates’ records.

However, the facility can only be used once by each candidate and is available only at designated JAMB CBT, PTC/PRC Centres, including applicable state offices.

“Candidates seeking the service must provide their new GSM number and/or email address and a duly executed court affidavit, scanned and ready for upload, the statement read.

They are also required to log into their e-facility profile, make payment for the service and proceed to a designated centre for biometric verification before the details can be changed.

JAMB said candidates can request a change of the GSM number, email address or both.

“The SIM swap and/or email change service shall be available only once,” the Board stressed.

It advised candidates to use the facility only for genuine cases and patronise designated JAMB CBT centres.

The Board said the reviewed policy was intended to ensure that candidates who lose access to their registered credentials are not unnecessarily disadvantaged.
