Police nab 89 drivers over number plate violations in Ogun
by Gift Oba · Daily PostOfficers of the Ogun State police command have arrested 89 drivers for various number plate violations across the state.
The successes, according to the Command, followed the enforcement of the nationwide directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, against vehicles operating without registration plates or with covered, altered, or obscured plates.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said the enforcement was part of intelligence-led and preventive policing aimed at denying criminal elements the opportunity to operate within the state.

Babaseyi argued that vehicles without proper registration or with covered and altered plates are often used to commit crimes and evade detection.
He disclosed that appropriate administrative and legal actions have been taken against the offenders in accordance with extant laws and established procedures, including prosecution where applicable.
The statement reads, “In compliance with the IGP’s directive, CP Ojajuni ordered all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to intensify enforcement across the State.
“The coordinated operations led to the interception of 89 vehicles and their drivers found in violation of the law.”
The Command noted that the exercise would be sustained to improve vehicle traceability and support prompt investigation.
Babaseyi urged motorists to comply with vehicle registration laws and advised residents to board commercial vehicles only at designated parks, avoid unbranded vehicles, and share travel details with trusted persons.
