Security: Tinubu inaugurates team for US-Nigeria joint working group
by Matthew Atungwu · Daily PostPresident Bola Tinubu has constituted the Nigerian delegation to the US–Nigeria Joint Working Group, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in addressing the security challenges confronting Nigeria.
The development follows a recent high-level visit to Washington, DC, by a Nigerian delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
The committee has the National Security Adviser as chairman of the Nigerian side of the group, supported by a multi-agency team of senior government officials.
The approved members include the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Defence, Mohammed Badaru; Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bernard M. Doro; as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed; and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
In addition, Ms Idayat Hassan of the Office of the National Security Adviser and Mr Paul Alabi of the Nigerian Embassy in the United States will serve as the secretariat to the group.
The President has also mandated members of the delegation to work closely and diligently with their American counterparts to ensure the effective and timely implementation of all agreed initiatives across relevant sectors.
