The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered firearms during an operation in Keana Local Government Area of the state.

The command said the arrest followed a raid on a criminal hideout at Gidan Akuya village by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), acting on credible intelligence.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes across Nasarawa State.

According to the statement, the suspects attempted to escape when they sighted the police team, but were pursued, leading to the arrest of one Jibril Yunusa, 43.

Nansel said a search of the hideout led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine and one locally fabricated rifle.

He added that the suspect confessed during interrogation to taking part in several kidnapping operations within the Keana and Awe axis of the state and had provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed operatives to intensify efforts to track down other members of the gang who fled during the raid.

He commended the officers for their professionalism and assured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
