by · Daily Post

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Presidential Candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has renewed his demand for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign. This time around, he argued that the latest disclosure by the International Monetary Fund, IMF on Nigeria’s off-budget expenditure has reinforced concerns over accountability, corruption and fiscal management under the current administration.

2. 3. Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 46-year-old quack doctor, identified as Osaze Okungbowa, following the disappearance of a newborn at a private health facility. The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, said the baby’s mother, Princess Oke, reported the incident to the police, alleging that the baby she delivered under Okungbowa’s care mysteriously disappeared from the clinic.

4. United States would closely watch Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, warning that Washington’s security and financial support would be tied to issues of religious freedom and the conduct of the polls. US Congressman, Riley Moore, a Republican representing West Virginia, disclosed this in an interview with NoireTV on Sunday.

5. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has debunked a media report alleging he was offered N500 billion to contest against the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, to split South-South votes. Special Adviser on Media to Jonathan, Dr Ikechukwu Eze, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, described the publication as entirely false and baseless.

6. The All Progressives Congress says it is on course to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission’s July 11 deadline for the submission of its presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections. A senior member of the party’s National Working Committee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the upload of candidates’ details was at an advanced stage, with the details of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate expected to be uploaded by the middle of the week.

7. The Senate is expected to address the controversy surrounding the N1.3bn allocation to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council in the 2026 Appropriation Act as plenary resumes on Tuesday. 8. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has recovered N5.79bn in proceeds of crime between January and June 2026 as part of its anti-corruption drive aimed at strengthening accountability and national security.
