SDP slams police action as leadership crisis escalates

by · Daily Post

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has condemned the recent action of the police, calling it unacceptable and capable of undermining Nigeria’s democratic process.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Rufus Aiyenigba, accused security agencies of acting in a manner that suggests political bias.

According to him, the action taken by the police was unnecessary and raised concerns about the neutrality of security institutions in the country.

Recall that according to the party, police officers intervened in a dispute involving former SDP National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, whom the party said had already been “expelled”.

The SDP accused the police of interfering without any court order and described the action as “reckless” and “partisan.”

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, said officers allegedly “bulldozed their way” into the matter without legal backing.

Mr Aiyenigba called on the authorities to ensure professionalism and fairness in the discharge of their duties, stressing that democracy can only thrive where the rule of law and justice are upheld.

The party also urged Nigerians to remain calm and law abiding while calling for accountability from institutions entrusted with maintaining peace and order.

The SDP maintained that democratic values must be protected at all times, regardless of political differences.
