Report suspicious movements promptly – Gov Adeleke to Osun residents

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or individuals to security agencies.

The governor’s appeal followed reports of planned terrorist attacks targeting places of worship in parts of Osun State.

The alert issued by the Department of State Security, DSS, has prompted calls for increased public alertness and information sharing.

Governor Adeleke in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday, urged residents to notify security agencies of any unusual activities in their communities, particularly the influx of unfamiliar faces in border communities across the state.

“We must provide the police and other security agencies with intelligence reports, with noticeable threats, in our communities.

“As we are aware of alleged plots to attack our places of worship, we must become extra vigilant. Report anything unusual without any delay,” Adeleke said.

The governor commended the DSS for taking proactive measures to counter the reported security threats.

He also directed other security agencies to review the situation and develop an action plan aimed at strengthening the protection of lives and property across Osun State.

Adeleke said he would soon convene a meeting of the State Security Council to assess the security situation and examine the effectiveness of existing response plans.

“As residents of this state, we must collaborate with the security agencies through information sharing. Cooperation between communities and security authorities,” he stressed.

The governor also urged residents to exercise caution over people they accommodate in their communities and called on traditional rulers to convene meetings of their traditional councils to discuss the reported developments.

“We must nip in the bud the evil plans of enemies of public peace,” Adeleke said.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to post-election peace-building, saying the state would tighten security measures to prevent terrorists and bandits from disrupting public peace.
