The Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party has announced that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket will be reserved for a candidate from the south.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Usman said, “We have taken a firm decision: we will not field any aspirant from northern Nigeria.

“The position has been zoned to southern Nigeria. So, if any northerner now seeks to contest, we certainly will not accept it.”

DAILY POST had earlier reported that the National Executive Council, NEC, of the Labour Party has approved the timetable for its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also stated that the submission of the membership register to INEC is scheduled for April 15, 2026; governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly primaries will take place on Friday, May 15, 2026; and the presidential primary election will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
