Four in court over alleged assault on police officer at Calabar market
by Asare Asare · Daily PostFour persons arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a police officer at Watt Market, Calabar, Cross River State, are to be arraigned in court on Friday.
The suspects are Emem Asuquo, 40; Aniema Nelson, 40; Idara Bassey Sunday, 28; and Mercy Edet, 44.
The Cross River State Police Command said the four men were identified following preliminary investigation into the incident.
They were among 60 persons arrested yesterday and screened by the police in connection with the disturbance at the market.

According to the command, evidence gathered during the investigation linked the four suspects to the alleged assault on the police officer.
The suspects are expected to appear before a court on September 18, 2026, to face the allegations.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said the command would allow the judicial process to take its course.
He added that the suspects would be presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
