Man charged after arrest as part of cross-border investigation into violent right-wing extremism

A MAN HAS been charged to court after his arrest yesterday as part of a cross-border investigation into violent right-wing extremism.

The cross-border investigation is being carried out with An Garda Síochána and follows previous searches in Co Down.

The 38-year-old man was arrested yesterday in Ballynahinch, Co Down by the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch for offences under the Terrorism Act. 

He is charged with possession of articles for use in terrorism, collection of information likely to be of use to terrorists and withholding information which might prevent an act of terrorism.

He is expected to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

A 40-year-old woman was also arrested yesterday in Lurgan, Co Armagh as part of the same investigation.

She has been released to be reported to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

A 48-year-old man was also arrested in Kilkeel, Co Down yesterday and he has been released following questioning. 

A PSNI spokesperson said the investigation continues.
