Man (40s) shot dead in Dún Laoghaire in south Dublin

A MAN WAS shot dead in Dún Laoghaire in south Dublin this morning.

Gardaí are investigating the shooting, which happened at around 8.30am at Patrician Park, Kill Avenue.

It is understood that the man, who was in his 40s, was shot in the leg and bled out at the scene.

He had a large number of criminal convictions, including convictions for selling drugs.

His body remains at the scene and a post-mortem examination will occur in due course, gardaí say. The coroner has been notified.

The scene is currently preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

Road closures are in place, with Kill Avenue and Glenageary Road Upper affected.

Local diversions have been created.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses of this incident to come forward.

There were no gun-related deaths in Ireland last year for the first time in decades. The last fatal shooting was in May 2024, when Josh Itseli (20) was killed in Drimnagh, Co Dublin.
