A surprise inspection was carried out by a Vigilance team at various motor vehicle check-posts on the borders of Palakkad district, including Gopalapuram, Walayar In, Walayar Out, Govindapuram, and Meenakshipuram, between 11 p.m. on Friday (January 10) and 3 a.m. on Saturday (January 11).

During the inspection, the team seized ₹1,49,490, allegedly bribes offered by drivers of vehicles carrying over-loaded goods, granite products, cattle, and vehicles transporting pilgrims to Sabarimala. The bribes were purportedly offered to officials in the check-posts in exchange for allowing them to pass without proper checks.

The vigilance unit acted on a tip-off regarding corrupt practices at these check-posts, where officials were allegedly accepting bribes to allow vehicles to pass without conducting proper inspections. The operation led to the seizure of ₹90,650 from Walayar In check-post, ₹29,000 from Walayar Out check-post, ₹15,650 from Gopalapuram check-post, ₹10,140 from Govindapuram check-post, and ₹4,050 from Meenakshipuram check-post, amounting to a total of ₹1,49,490.
