The Nagapattinam Fast Track Mahila Court on Friday sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for murdering her husband’s alleged partner in 2016.

Valli, 30, a resident of Natarajar Pillai Street near Nagapattinam Kottaivasal Padi, was married to Karthikeyan, 36, who allegedly had a relationship with Sukanya, a woman from the same locality. This caused disharmony between the couple.

In 2016, during an altercation, Valli poured boiling oil on Sukanya when she intervened in their quarrel. Sukanya sustained severe burns and was admitted to a government hospital where she died. The Nagapattinam Town Police arrested Valli and a case was registered.

After examining the evidence, judge C. Karthika of the Fast Track Mahila Court sentenced Valli to life imprisonment. The court imposed a fine of ₹2.2 lakh on the accused, with an additional three-year prison term if the fine was not paid.
