Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday, said Mangaluru can very well host an energy security summit as the Karnataka coast has been a hub of energy production houses.

He was responding to a question by author Harsha Bhat at the Mangaluru Lit Fest where the Minister spoke on the ‘Energy for Survival-Security and Climate Debate’ here. He encouraged MP Captain Brijesh Chowta to take the lead promising all support from the Ministry. He said, “We can easily do it. My Hon’ble friend and Member of Parliament met all the oil marketing companies yesterday. If you want to organise an energy security event here, go ahead and talk to them. I will support it.“ Ms. Bhat had asked about the possibility of taking events like energy summits beyond big cities in order to harness the potential in smaller cities.

After the first two energy weeks at Bengaluru and Goa, the Ministry was building a permanent exhibition facility in Goa on the 240 acres plot owned by ONGC. “We are building a huge conference facility like Bharat Mangalam or Yasho Bhoomi that we have in Delhi so that entities all over the world can host their conferences there,” Mr. Puri said.

The Minister said this time the month-long India Energy Week at New Delhi next month would be open daily to the public to facilitate people, particularly youngsters, to get to see it, as wished by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr. Puri further said, “We started three years ago, but today it is the largest energy show in the world. And unlike others which are placed in fossil fuels or other things, this one has technology all other components of the start-up ecosystem related to energy. So I invite you and all youngsters to come and see what is on offer there. Because you will then realise how much the country has progressed.”
