BJP senior leader Pakalapati Sanyasi Raju has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and National Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to extend metro rail connectivity to Vizianagaram to speed up the district’s development and ensure better connectivity to Visakhapatnam.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, January 15, he said that the government could extend the proposed metro rail project between Gajuwaka and Bhogapuram to Vizianagaram via Rajapulova.

“An extra 20 km connectivity from Rajapulova to Vizianagaram would benefit nearly 50,000 people who commute between Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam daily. The State government should also address and include the issue in the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The patronage of the large number of passengers will ensure the project’s viability,” said Mr. Sanyasi Rau.

He expressed hope that the “double-engine” governments established at the Centre and State could turn Vizianagaram into a developed city, making Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram twin cities. He said the availability of government lands is an added advantage for the Vizianagaram district, as they can be used to set up many industries and improve road, rail, and air connectivity.
