Seven held for abducting youth

The Thampanoor police have arrested seven youths in connection with an alleged abduction and assault of another person late Wednesday.

According to the police, a 10-member gang purportedly abducted Praveen alias Unni, 27, of Thirumala.

Those nabbed in the case have been identified as Adith Vijayan, 20, Aswin Vijay, 20, and N.S. Nishad, 25, of Pappanamcode; Vishnu, 32, of Muttathara; Mujeesh Khan, 23, of Kattakada; Muhammed Kaif, 23, of Pravachambalam; and M. Anu, 29, of Nemom.

The police said that the incident was allegedly linked to the suicide of another youth, Poojappura native Vishnu, on Wednesday. This occurred shortly after Vishnu was summoned by the police for allegedly harassing the sister of the complainant, Unni. Vishnu’s friends later abducted and attacked Unni in retaliation, the police added.
