One killed in fire at ONGC installation in Assam

A fire at an installation of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in eastern Assam’s Jorhat district claimed the life of an engineer on Tuesday (January 7, 2025).
District officials said the fire broke out at the ONGC’s group gathering station (GGS) at Barhola around noon, grievously injuring Rahul Dutta, an engineer with the production wing of the corporation. He died at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
A GGS is a facility crude oil and natural gas are collected from multiple wells and processed.
Fire tenders managed to bring the fire under control. “We have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire,” a district police officer said.
The ONGC did not issue any statement on the incident.
