Erode (East) bypoll 2025 | Model code of conduct comes into effect

The filing of nominations will begin on January 10, while the polling is on February 5.

With the model code of conduct coming into immediate effect in the Erode (East) Assembly constituency, for which polling will be held on February 5, election officials began removing political posters, symbols and covering the names of leaders of political parties in public places on Tuesday (January 7, 2025).

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the byelection for the constituency, which fell vacant following the death of Congress MLA E.V.K.S Elangovan on December 14, 2024. The filing of nominations will begin on January 10, while January 17 will be the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on January 18, and the last date for withdrawing candidatures is January 20. Counting of votes will take place on February 8, and the election process will be completed by February 10.

Corporation workers sealed the offices of Mayor and Deputy Mayor, while the names of leaders of political parties on the premises were covered. Additionally, the MLA office was sealed, and portraits of Chief Minister and other leaders in government offices in the constituency were removed. Flagpoles of political parties were also removed, and officials said graffiti and advertisements of parties and symbols will be whitewashed.
