Incriminating documents seized by police in connection with fake NRI scam.

Crackdown in education counselling centres in connection with fake NRI certificates

The Central Crime Branch of Greater Chennai Police has conducted searches at education counselling centres in connection with a case related to an attempt to get admission to undergraduate/postgraduate medical courses by submitting fake non-resident Indian (NRI) certificates.

During the online MBBS counselling conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research for the year 2024-2025 for UG and PG admission in medical courses under NRI quota, it was found that some students had submitted fake NRI bonafide certificates as issued by Indian Embassy from various foreign countries. On a complaint filed by the Directorate, a case was registered in the Forgery Investigation Wing, Central Crime Branch, and an investigation was taken up.

On investigation, it was revealed that students have applied for admission under NRI quota from some educational counselling centers operating in Chennai.

In order to seize/collect the document relating to the case, as per the orders of CCB & CBCID Court, a search was conducted in the following place by Central Crime Branch police, which was headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Forgery Investigation Wing M. Gayathri.

The police said the searches were conducted at Sree Sai Educational Academy, Pallavaram, Meta Neet, Porur, Sri Sai Career Next Academy, Saligramam, Sri Sai Career Next Academy, Nungambakkam, Zion Career Solutions, Velachery, Life Link Education Consultancy, Annanagar, Study India Education Consultancy, Ashok Nagar and Madha Medical College, Kundrathur.

During the search, 105 incriminating documents relating to the case, 19 seals, 22 computers, two pendrives, five hard disks, mobile phones were seized.

Those documents will be scrutinised and further action will be taken, said the police.
