SSI arrested under POCSO Act for sexually assaulting minor girl

 A special sub-inspector (SSI) of police was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl at Tirupparankundram near Madurai in the second week of December 2024.

Police said SSI P. Jeyapandi, 59, of Thideer Nagar crime police station who was on duty during Karthigai Deepam had allegedly followed a minor girl to a restroom and sexually assaulted her.

As the girl did not return for a long time, her parents went searching of her in the restroom, where they found their daughter lying unconscious.

Following this, she was admitted to a nearby hospital. Doctors, who treated her, revealed to the parents that their daughter was sexually assaulted.  

Then, through Child Line, the incident was informed to Tirupparankundram All Women Police Station.

In the investigation, they found that Jeyapandi, who was on duty that day, had sexually assaulted the girl.  

He was then booked under sections 10 (Punishment for aggravated sexual assault) ,9(a)(ii) (Whoever, being a police officer, commits sexual assault on a child in the premises of any station house whether or not situated in the police station to which he is appointed), 9(a)(iii) (Whoever, being a police officer, commits sexual assault on a child in the course of his duties or otherwise), 9(m) (whoever commits sexual assault on a child below twelve years) of POCSO Act. He was arrested and suspended.
