Kite and Sweet Festival at Secunderabad Parade Grounds from January 13

Entry is free and all are invited, said Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao.

The seventh edition of the International Kite and Sweet Festival will be held at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad from January 13 to 15, coinciding with Sankranti. Nearly 47 international kite flyers from 16 countries and 60 members of a kite club from 14 States would fly kites at the festival organised by Telangana Tourism and Culture department. 

Sweets from various States, countries and Telangana’s traditional sweets would be available at the stalls. Cultural programmes would be organised. Handlooms and handicraft products would be displayed. Entry is free and all are invited, said Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao while giving details about the festival, at a press conference held in Hyderabad on Saturday. Around 15 lakh visitors are expected. 

He said that the Kites and Sweet Festival would be held in the rural part of the State too in the coming days .Dubbing Hyderabad as a mini-India, the Minister said that besides people from various States, those from other countries too have settled in the city.

Before unveiling the festival poster, the Minister toured the sweet stalls, where women from various States showcased traditional homemade sweets. Tourism and Culture Department Secretary Smita Sabharwal said that the festival is a first-of-its-kind conceptual event, not only in India but also globally, showcasing Telangana’s uniqueness.

Tourism department director Zendage Hanumant Kondiba; director of Culture Mamidi Harikrishna and others were present at the press conference.
