Delhi Police identifies 175 people in verification drive against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Delhi police have identified 175 more illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the Capital, a police officer said on Sunday (December 22, 2024).
The police have so far spotted over 1,000 illegal immigrants since December 11, when Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena ordered a crackdown against them.
The officer said the 175 people were identified during a 12-hour-long verification drive in outer Delhi areas on Saturday.
“The police have intensified their efforts to identify and detain individuals residing without valid documents,” he said.
“Concerned about the growing number of undocumented immigrants, the Outer District police have launched a series of targeted operations and joint checks in various areas under their jurisdiction,” the police officer said.
The police said they have formed special teams to conduct door-to-door checks and gather intelligence on suspected illegal immigrants.
The operations involve a detailed scrutiny of documents and interrogations of the identified individuals, the police said.

“Verification efforts extended beyond the district, with various teams being dispatched to native places of these individuals to authenticate their identities,” the officer added.
