Donald Trump has vowed to sue the BBC in a matter of hours after the broadcaster edited a speech by the US president for a Panorama documentary.

The US President said he would file a libel lawsuit "probably this afternoon or tomorrow evening" after the corporation was accused of doctoring his speech before the infamous January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. Speaking out over the controversy, Trump said: "I'm suing the BBC for putting words in my mouth… I guess they used AI or something."

He added: "They actually put terrible words in my mouth." It comes weeks after the BBC apologised to the Republican politician over the edit, which appeared during a 2024 Panorama episode.

Describing the incident as an "error of judgement", a BBC spokesperson said the clip would "not be broadcast again in this form on any BBC platforms."
