A federal indictment charging Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, his wife and four other people with narco-terrorism conspiracy and other charges was unsealed and posted online by US Attorney General Pam Bondi on Saturday morning after the couple's dramatic capture.
On top of the narco-terrorism conspiracy charge, the indictment alleges four other criminal counts: cocaine importation conspiracy; possession of machine guns and destructive devices; and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices.
The pair are reportedly being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center, a federal facility in Brooklyn, New York.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said yesterday he was given a briefing about the capture of Maduro and his wife "as well as their planned imprisonment in federal custody here in New York City".
