Police have swarmed a town street and an air ambulance was seen landing in a nearby field after a serious incident local reports claim involved a child.

The helicopter was spotted landing earlier today in a field near Highstone Lane, Barnsley, with witnesses saying they helped paramedics get to the scene.

Local reports suggest a child may be involved, although this has not been confirmed by Yorkshire Air Ambulance or South Yorkshire Police.

Witnesses say they 'helped' paramedics

Witnesses posting on Facebook say they assisted paramedics attending the scene.

Posting to Facebook, witness Dave Mordaunt said: "I gave the crew of Helimed-98 a lift with their kit over a barbed wire fence and the wall from Three Corner Field (where they landed)." South Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Air Ambulance have been contacted for further comment.
