Flights were being turned away after a technical issue that occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 12. Only departing flights were operating out of the airport.
The issue at a National Air Traffic Service's (NATS) radar site caused long delays. Several flights were being diverted to East Midlands Airport and Liverpool's John Lennon Airport.
"Due to a technical issue with NATS' radar that serves Birmingham Airport, only departing flights are currently operating, with some delays," a spokesperson said.
"All arriving flights are currently suspended. We apologise for the delay to customers, and we are working closely with NATS to rectify the issue," the spokesperson added.

Radar serving Birmingham Airport restored
The National Air Traffic Service (NATS) said the radar serving Birmingham Airport has been restored.
The NATS issued a statement which read: "We have restored our radar serving Birmingham Airport following an earlier power outage caused by bad weather and it is now operating normally again. We are working closely with the Airport as they resume their air traffic service and apologise to passengers who are affected by this issue."

Birmingham Airport shut days earlier for snow
Birmingham Airport was shut just days earlier as Storm Goretti battered the United Kingdom.
The airport closed its runway on Friday, January 9 due to heavy snowfall, as road and air travel was disrupted and the Midlands blanketed.

At least 12 flights to land at Birmingham Airport diverted
Data from flight tracking webiste Flightradar24 showed that at least 12 flights scheduled to land at Birmingham Airport were diverted since 7.45pm on Sunday, Janaury 11. It is not clear whether these diversions are linked it the power outage.
Other flights into the airport have been delayed.
All arrivals to Birmingham Airport are being diverted or cancelled due to a technical issue.
The power outage at a National Air Traffic Service's (NATS) radar site has halted all arrivals to the airport.
