Long queues are forming near Gatwick Airport in London this morning after a 'serious collision' shut the road - with the closure anticipated to remain in place for hours

The crash occurred just after 5.30am on the M23 northbound between junction 10 Crawley and junction nine Gatwick.
Huge queues are forming on the motorway on Thursday, April 2 with emergency services at the scene. National Highways warns of long delays as the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.

Reminder of diversion route on M23
Road users are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol on road signs:
Exit the M23 at J10 and take the 3rd exit at the roundabout to head onto the eastbound A264.
Follow the A264 to the junction with the A22 and turn left onto the A22.
Continue on the A22 to the M25 J6 and join the M25.
Follow the M25 clockwise to J7 to rejoin the M23 and continue your journey.

Delays of one and a half hours
Traffic England says there are delays of one and a half hours against expected traffic on the M23.
It expects normal traffic conditions to return by 10am.

Disruption expected for several hours on M23
The M23 in West Sussex is closed northbound between J10 (Crawley) and J9 (London Gatwick Airport) due a serious single vehicle collision, National Highways said.
Emergency services including Sussex Police are on scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene and assisting the emergency services with traffic management.
"Due to the serious nature of the collision the road is expected to remain closed for several hours," the service added.

Delays of nearly an hour
National Highways are currently reporting delays of nearly an hour on the M23. A spokesperson said: "There are currently delays of 50 minutes against expected traffic."
