Bleijie to introduce bill acting on freshly tabled industrial relations review
By Matt Dennien
Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie has kicked off ministerial statements with some major news this afternoon, tabling the government’s review of the state workers’ compensation scheme and industrial relations laws.
The review conducted by former Bleijie-appointed WorkCover chair Glenn Ferguson and Industrial Relations Commissioner Gary Black, has made 104 recommendations, Bleijie told parliament.
Bleijie has also tabled the government’s response, and said he would introduce a bill tonight. A total 75 recommendations have been accepted in full, 14 accepted in principle, six noted, and nine rejected, he said.
“These reforms, accepted by the government for implementation, will begin to shift the balance back in Queenslanders’ favour, bringing us into line with other jurisdictions, including the national government with the Fair Work Act, while protecting important rights and entitlements for Queensland workers,” he said.
