Police still crunching data on draft bail crackdown’s watchhouse hit

Before we get into the parliamentary sitting proper, we’ve got some detail out of the morning’s committee sessions.

Particularly one concerning the government’s floated “breach bail, go to jail” bill, which has sparked serious criticism from several major organisations and independent bodies.

One issue raised among the more than 250 submissions to the Justice, Integrity and Community Safety Committee’s is detention capacity.

Officials from the Queensland Police Service, Department of Justice, and the Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support appear before the committee this morning.

This is because the bill seeks to create a new offence that could be applied to anyone – adult or child – who commits a range of offences while already on bail.
