Kids Helpline takes thousands of calls from WA children

The Kids Helpline says it has had about 5000 calls from West Australian children from the start of the year.

About 8 per cent of calls resulted in crisis interventions, with more than half related to instances of alleged child abuse.

Calls to the Kids Helpline from WA children have increased this year.

The remaining calls requiring intervention related to suicide attempts and mental illness escalation.

While Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland received the highest total call volumes, Western Australia had the second-highest rate of child abuse reports, second only the Northern Territory.
