WA’s brickies put on rations as manufacturer struggles to keep up with demand

WA’s brickies have been put on rations by the state’s only brick manufacturer as the company struggles to keep up with demand amid a housing shortage crisis.

Midland Brick is rationing the number of bricks it supplies to builders as it struggles to keep up with demand.

Midland Brick’s stocks are beginning to dwindle, forcing the company to limit the number of bricks builders can buy, which could lead to major construction delays.

Housing infrastructure minister John Carey said he was very concerned by the development.

“Obviously, we all know the history of commercial brick operations in Western Australia, and a number of players have left the market, and that has ... caused pressure,” he said.
