Double Fine is the latest Microsoft-owned video game studio to attempt to unionize. The maker of recently released Kiln has filed a petition to unionize with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

Double Fine's petition was filed on May 7 in conjunction with the Communications Workers of America (CWA). The document states that all 42 part-time and full-time employees at the San Francisco video game studio have chosen to unionize.

The CWA made the following statement to Aftermath:

On May 7, the workers at Microsoft studio Double Fine Productions announced their decision to form a union with CWA to preserve and extend the studio’s commitments to creative excellence, diversity and inclusion, and worker quality of life. In tandem with requesting voluntary recognition from the company, workers have also filed an election petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to secure union representation. We appreciate that Microsoft has taken a neutral approach and agreed not to interfere in any way with worker’s rights to organize unions.

Double Fine joins several other Microsoft game studios across other subsidiaries like Activision Blizzard and Zenimax that have had varying degrees of success at being recognized by the multi-trillion dollar technology behemoth.
