Argentina President Javier Milei Visits the Rebbe’s Ohel
Argentinian President Javier Milei traveled with his delegation to the Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens on Thursday, continuing what has become a regular stop during his visits to New York.
by COLlive Editor · COLliveArgentinian President Javier Milei traveled with his delegation to the Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens on Thursday, following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the United Nations.
The two leaders held a closed-door meeting lasting approximately 20 minutes, with Netanyahu thanking Milei for his strong support for Israel.
Following the meeting, Milei and his entourage headed to the Ohel, continuing what has become a regular practice during his visits to New York. President Milei was greeted by Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky of Chabad World Headquarters.
Milei has repeatedly spoken of his admiration for the Rebbe and his teachings. His first trip abroad after being elected president in 2023 was to the Ohel, and he has returned on subsequent visits to New York. Earlier this year, he addressed Chabad-Lubavitch of Argentina’s annual Gimmel Tammuz tribute to the Rebbe, telling the crowd that the Rebbe’s teachings had made “a real impact on my way of thinking.”
The Argentine president also maintains a close relationship with Chabad Shluchim in Argentina, including Head Shliach Rabbi Tzvi Grunblatt and his son-in-law Rabbi Chaim Oirechman.
Milei has become known for incorporating Torah ideas, including insights from the weekly Parsha, into public remarks and has regularly participated in events honoring the Rebbe.
His visit to the Ohel came during a busy New York trip surrounding the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
In his address to the General Assembly on Wednesday, Milei sharply criticized the UN’s record on international security and human rights. He accused the organization of having “systematically voted against Israel” while, in his words, remaining silent in the face of “Islamic terrorism” and the killing of Christians in Africa.
Milei also used the address to reiterate Argentina’s alignment with the United States and Israel, saying his government had made a deliberate geopolitical decision to align itself with both countries.
The visit to the Ohel came ahead of the Sukkos holiday, which begins Friday evening.
